The ever busy Allies and Morrison has designed this new project to stand on the edge of the London Borough of Newham near Ballymore's Leamouth Peninsula development.

The site off Bidder Street is known as Crown Wharf and one of the most complicated in the area to convert from light industrial to residential development thanks to the major A12 flyover running immediately to the south of it and the north of the site being occupied by industrial space.

The architects design features three tower buildings, and three lower-rise blocks ringing the edge of the site almost like a protective wall shutting away the planned green space in the centre from being overwhelmed by the urban mess outside. This green area will be a mini urban park looking on to the River Lea. Also planned are new pedestrian routes through the site.

The tallest building is 32 storeys and on the northern side of the plot which should see the height come in at about 100 metres - typical in scale for this part of London. This positioning is deliberately intended to help shield the rest of the site from the noise of a recycling plant that lies next door.

The rest of buildings in Crown Wharf are planned to step down in height with a 28 storey, 24 and 12 also included in the plans, and are as you would expect from the architect, resolutely modernist in design.

The end result of these constraints is it is another of those isolated developments that are gradually springing up piecemeal through out the area such as New Providence Wharf and Elektron, that perhaps in the longer term can form a whole and coherent urban fabric when there is enough of them like Canary Wharf and its surrounding area are finally starting to do.
